Football is arguably the world’s most popular sport and is played by millions of people all over the globe. It is a sport that requires a lot of physical exertion and is therefore, excellent for muscular health, cardiovascular endurance, bone strength, and overall body flexibility. It is also a great form of socialization and teaches children the importance of working together as a team.
The game begins with a coin toss to determine which team will start off with the ball and where on the field they want to begin. The teams then line up and the game commences with a kick off play. The kicking team must try to advance the ball down the field as far as they can before they are stopped or run out of bounds. The team that catches the ball then gets four chances (downs) to make 10 yards of forward progress or else the ball will be turned over to the opposing defensive team.
During each down the offence can run or pass the ball. If they are within 40 yards of the opposition’s goal post they can attempt a field goal which is worth three points. If they are further back they will usually opt to punt.
Players are allowed a maximum of 11 players on each team and they are all required to wear appropriate protective gear. It is important to note that no player may touch the ball with their hands during a play unless they are attempting a fair catch kick or a field goal.
If a player accidentally touches the ball during a play they will be penalized with either a false start or holding. False starts are 5 yard penalties while holding is a 15 yard penalty that occurs when a defensive player illegally touches the quarterback during or after throwing a pass. Other than these penalties football is a pretty safe sport to play.
Like all sports, football teaches important life lessons such as how to work well with others and the value of perseverance. It also teaches kids how to stay calm and focus during chaotic situations. It is important for all children to learn how to manage their emotions as well as develop a positive attitude towards healthy competition. After all, if you can’t compete with a friend, you can always practice! This will build mental toughness and help children to better deal with failure. In addition, it will help them develop a strong sense of self-esteem and confidence. This is a critical trait that will benefit them in many different aspects of their lives. It will help them to be successful in school, in their careers and in relationships.
