Association Football – The Word Football
Association football, also called simply football, is an extremely popular sport played by hundreds of thousands of people across different countries and communities. It is played by about 250 million players worldwide in more than 200 countries and dependencies, which make it the fourth most popular sport in the world. It has also been one of the very first sports to be adapted to a professional level, and as a result there are many well-known players who have achieved great success in their careers. There are several teams competing in the professional football league in America, and some of the teams include the New York Giants, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets.
Association football is played between two teams who wear protective clothing including shirts, shorts and socks. The game of football relies on a ball, which is used to make scores. Although football can be played with only two teams, each team plays in an entirely different field of the competition. The object of the game is for the team to score more points (“points”) than their opponents.
Although football is regarded as a violent sport when compared to other contact sports, it has managed to create a number of international tournaments, including the World Cup, and the governing body for the sport, FIFA (Federation of International Football Associations). The sport has also attracted a lot of people due to its popularity and interesting history. Originally, football was played between groups of people using an open space and a ball made from animal skin. The game became popular as a commercial sport during the First World War. It was this reason that the sport gained the support of many nations who wanted to reduce the number of casualties during that time.
The game gained more popularity as a spectator sport, as it developed into what we see today. Many people in various countries played the football sport, especially since it was easy to travel by train and ship, and it allowed them to be in front of their televisions all the time. As a result, the football sport gained more public interest and eventually became one of the most watched sports in the world. Today, there are thousands of people who play football. However, many children do not have the chance to play the sport because it is generally not included in the school’s curriculum.
Due to the tremendous growth of the sport, the International Federation of Association Football or FIFA is the governing body of the sport. The association consists of all the countries that are known to have soccer stadiums including European nations like Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom and Belgium. The word football is derived from French and means “ball.” The association started as a group of football clubs in Europe, and then it began to invite other nations to join. Currently, the association has 27 member countries. Among these countries are: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, England, Spain, Greece, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam, Uruguay and West Indies.
Many people tend to associate football with the English footballing teams, which is wrong. The association football governing body has many different codes for different levels of play. There are Youth, Adult and Senior levels for those who wish to play the game. This gives everyone the opportunity to play the sport of their choice. There are different codes for men, women, boys and girls.
